Idaho Attorney General Investigating Former Boat Maker

Jul 27, 2015

The Idaho Attorney General's Office is now investigating a former custom boat maker who moved to upstate New York to open a new business, leaving behind unfinished boats and multiple lawsuits.

The Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise reports that Christopher Bohnenkamp launched a new endeavor — a tour company called Niagara Jet Adventures, in Niagara County, N.Y. — even as he faces lawsuits from disgruntled customers and companies trying to collect on unpaid bills. The newspaper says his businesses took more than $1 million from customers who ordered boats, but failed to deliver them.

Last week the attorney general issued a letter demanding an array of documents, including financial and legal records, the locations of unfinished boats and contacts for former employees of Bohnenkamp's businesses, Whitewater Customs and Treasure Valley Marine. Bohnenkamp's attorney has said the companies simply ran out of money.

The office says it is investigating possible violations of the Idaho Consumer Protection Act.
