Seven Idaho Schools Make Newsweek’s List Of 2013’s Best High Schools

The media team of Newsweek and the Daily Beast has released its annual list of the nation’s best high schools. Seven Idaho schools made this year’s top 2,000 list. Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy is ranked 89, the only Idaho school to crack the top 100.

Idaho Adopts New State Water Plan

Idaho has a new water plan -- the first update since 1996 to the state’s principles for how water in streams, lakes and aquifers should be divided among users and how it should be conserved for fish and wildlife. The new plan goes into effect Friday.  But not everyone is happy about it.

The Idaho Water Plan doesn’t have the force of law, but it does offer some guidance over state policy when it comes to water.

Meet Zoo Boise's Newest Residents, Kibibi And D.J.

Two female patas monkeys are resting at Zoo Boise after arriving on a late-night Delta flight from the east coast.

The females are meant as companions for the male patas monkey who saw his cage mate bludgeoned to death last month during a break in at the zoo.

A Boise spokesperson says the zoo received an outpouring of community support. The volunteer organization known as The Friends of  Zoo Boise have pledged to help raise $209,000 for a new habitat for the monkeys. So far, $75,000 has been raised.

Idaho Prison Agrees To Improve Medical Care

The Idaho Department of Correction has reached an agreement with the inmates at one of its prisons. This comes from a lawsuit spanning more than three decades.

Jason Prince is a lawyer who represents 1,600 inmates at the Idaho State Correctional Institution. He’s spent the last few months negotiating an agreement on changes to medical care at the prison near Boise. Prince says the biggest change will be increased staff.

Horizon Air To Base Flight Crews In Boise, Medford, and Spokane

Editor's Note: This story has been updated with additional information. The original story stated that by the end of the summer, Horizon Air's nearly 900 pilots and flight attendants would also call Boise, Idaho, Medford, Oregon and Spokane, Washington home. We've clarified this to say that by the end of the summer 300 of those 900 flight crews will be based in Boise, Medford and Spokane.
