The Meridian Library is a winner of the highest honor that can be given to museums and libraries across the country.
The National Medal for Museum and Library Service program is 25 years old. All types of museums and libraries are eligible, but only 10 of them walk away with the medal and the $5,000 award for the honor.
Speaking in March on Idaho Matters, Director Gretchen Caserotti talked about the library’s mission.
“Our philosophy is to embed ourselves in the community and serve people from within the community and not wait for them to come to us,” said Caserotti.
She said being nominated for the award came in part from the library’s view on how it interacts with the city of Meridian.
“That belief in outreach with our community and building partnerships I think really helped us stand out in our nomination,” Caserotti said.
The library will accept the medal at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in June.
