Federal forest administrators have shut down a stretch of U.S. Highway 12 in north-central Idaho to trucks hauling big and wide loads.
The closure order was issued Wednesday by the U.S. Forest Service for a section of highway that runs through the Lochsa-Clearwater Wild and Scenic River corridor.
It comes days after a federal judge blocked a second shipment of giant oil-field equipment planned for the winding roadway. Oregon hauler Omega Morgan had expected to begin its journey across Idaho Wednesday into Montana then north to Canada.
The agency said the closure applies to shipments that exceed 16 feet in width, 150 feet in length or takes more than 12 hours to travel through the 100-mile corridor.
The Forest Service is studying the impact of the shipments on the corridor.
