Camp Rainbow Gold Secures Permanent Site In Camas County

Camp Rainbow Gold

Camp Rainbow Gold, a rustic retreat for young cancer patients, has found a permanent home in Camas County near Fairfield.

The camp is putting down roots in Camas County after a long and complicated effort to secure a site in Blaine County near the Big Wood River. The camp pursued a 260 acre site there – the Camas County location the camp will set up shop at is 172 acres.

The Mountain Express reports part of the Soldier Mountain Ranch and Resort will go to the camp and be used for retreats. The site will host a pair of camps for young cancer patients, two retreats for families coping with illness, and one focusing on siblings of those with serious medical issues.

Camp Rainbow Gold executive director Elizabeth Lizberg says the organization has scrupulously reviewed the location and believes it’s the right fit.

The Soldier Mountain location was secured in a $1.3 million deal. The funds came from a charitable donation by the California-based Nancy P. and Richard K. Robbins Family Foundation. The property is not turnkey ready. Camp Rainbow Gold will develop a plan for the site and initiate a capital campaign to raise money for construction and upgrades.
