Pastor Saeed Abedini has been the focus of media reports and pleas for help from his family in Boise. Now Abedini will be the focus of a hearing of a U.S. House Foreign Affairs subcommittee.
Abedini has been a prisoner in Iran since September of 2012 after being accused of forming a network of Christian churches. He's serving an eight year sentence and was recently moved to a notoriously brutal prison in Iran.
Committee member, Rep. Christopher Smith (R-New Jersey) says Abedini has endured imprisonment, solitary confinement, beatings, and untreated internal bleeding. He says the hearing will examine the effort to save Abedini before it is too late.
Abedini's wife Naghmeh, who lives in Boise, will testify before lawmakers on Capitol Hill at Thursday's hearing. She and her attorney will share the latest information about Abedini's deteriorating health and his transfer to the new prison.
