A south-central Idaho man shot and killed by law enforcement officers on Interstate 84 has been identified.
Idaho State Police say 34-year-old Matthew David Conrad of nearby Hammett died at the scene Tuesday morning after he pointed a gun at two Elmore County sheriff's deputies who opened fire.
Police say that Conrad stole a pickup and tried to elude police but officers used a maneuver to force him off a rural road and into a field near the north side of the interstate.
Police say Conrad, with a gun in his hand, ran across the westbound lanes of the interstate to the eastbound lanes where he attempted to carjack three different vehicles but the drivers sped away.
Police say Conrad then pointed the gun at two deputies who opened fire.

Authorities say two Elmore County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday morning shot and killed a man on Interstate 84 after he stole a pickup, attempted to carjack three different vehicles and then pointed a gun at the deputies.
Idaho State Police say the 34-year-old resident of nearby Hammett died at the scene. His name hasn't been released.
Elmore County Sheriff Rick Layher says the deputies weren't injured and the Idaho State Police are in charge of the investigation.
Police say the man attempted to elude authorities but crashed off the interstate after a maneuver by police.
Police say he ran to the eastbound lanes with a gun in his hand trying to carjack motorists but three vehicles sped away.
Police say the man then pointed the gun at the deputies, who opened fire.

Deputies in southwest Idaho have been involved in a shooting on Interstate 84 west of Hammett and the highway is closed in both directions.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office says no deputies were injured in the shooting that occurred at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The sheriff's office didn't say if anyone else was injured.
The highway is closed between Hammett and Mountain Home.
The sheriff's office says it's looking for two vehicles whose occupants might have witnessed the shooting.
One vehicle is described as a maroon colored car and the other a black or blue small- to medium-sized sport utility vehicle.
