Hailing from Prince Edward Island in Canada, Brooke Miller writes lush folk tunes that are highly influenced by her home province. Singing numbers from her debut recording, You Can See Everything, Miller is a worthy heir to the legacy of fellow Canadians Bruce Cockburn and Joni Mitchell.
Her work wasn't always so quaint. Miller was touring with a punk trio called Bleek before she even reached her teens, opening for the likes of Sloan and Modest Mouse in their early-'90s, pre-fame incarnations. But Miller's tastes soon matured beyond the screaming she was doing at the front of the band.
Miller soon embraced her Cockburn influences, as well as other artists such Leon Redbone, Rickie Lee Jones, and The Police, forming a sound more personal and reflective of her talent. For example, "Country from the Dome Car" is a reflection on the Canadian Roots on the Rails traveling music festival that migrates from Toronto to Vancouver.
