Ada County voters can hit the polls this weekend. With enthusiasm high for the upcoming election, the county is opening several polling places extra days for early voting.

Saturday voting is back. It’s not the first time Ada County voters have been able to go to the polls on the weekend, but this time they’ll have more Saturdays to cast ballots.

“For this election, we’re expanding it to two Saturdays,” says Phil McGrane, the Ada County clerk. According to him, the popularity of early voting is on the rise. When it kicked off earlier this week, initial turnout was high. McGrane says thousands of people across the region have already done their civic duty.

“As of Thursday,” the county clerk says, “we’ve had 6,500 people vote early across all three of our permanent locations as well as our mobile unit.”

The three locations Ada County residents can vote at this Saturday and Saturday, October 27 are City Hall in Boise, the Ada County Elections Office near the mall and Meridian City Hall. They’ll all be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Based on what he’s seeing, McGrane says voters are more energized than usual for the impending battle at the ballot box.

“So far the interest seems much more close to a presidential year than we would see in an off year like this,” says McGrane.

Early voting might be doing well, but the real turnout test will come November 6, Election Day.
