Idaho’s Attorney General wants the U.S. Senate to pass a bill to stop robocalls.
Lawrence Wasden signed a letter along with 53 other attorneys general asking the Senate to pass the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act. It would help block unwanted phone calls and create a working group to hold telemarketers and robocallers accountable.
Wasden says the calls are a “technological plague” that affects everyone with a phone.
More than 48 billion robocalls were made last year. They were the number one source of complaints by consumers to the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission. In 2017, consumers lost $290 million dollars to telemarketer fraud.
Attorneys General from all 50 states signed the letter, along with Washington D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
