Boise High To Change Mascot From 'Braves' To 'Brave'

Aug 13, 2019

Boise High received unanimous approval from the Boise School Board Monday to change its mascot from Braves to Brave. But, the process could take several years to complete.

The school began efforts in 2014 to move away from tribal caricatures, but the process of completely changing its mascot to 'Brave' is expected to take between three to five years.

Boise District spokesperson Dan Hollar says the school will form a committee of stakeholders including staff, students and alumni to determine how to update existing artifacts, logos, branding and of course, decide on a physical mascot.

The committee will also include tribal representatives to help facilitate teaching opportunities around tribal history and symbols.

The district did not immediately provide information on how much the changes would cost or how they would be paid for.
