'Depressed Cake Shop' Event In Boise Puts A Unique Spin On Mental Health Awareness

Mar 5, 2020

Eating cake usually signifies a celebration: a celebration of a birthday, a wedding, a graduation, a retirement. But there’s an upcoming event in Boise that will turn this paradigm on its head: the Depressed Cake Shop.

The event started in California several years ago. The fundraiser is this Saturday and organizers hope to bring folks together for support and to break down the stigma of mental health. All of the proceeds will go to Interfaith Sanctuary's mental health program.

Depressed Bake Shop organizer Valerie van Gelder joins Idaho Matters remote from California, along with Jodi Peterson from Interfaith Sanctuary, therapist Jenelle Johnson with Recovery 4 Life and high school student Bria Eaton.
