The Idaho Republican has represented the Gem State in the U.S. Senate since 1998. He was re-elected in 2010 with 71 percent of the vote after running unopposed in 2004.

Crapo said in a prepared statement that he will continue to fight for the Idaho's conservative values in Washington.

Crapo, a Mormon who practiced law before entering politics, lives in Idaho Falls with his wife Susan and his five children. He made headlines in January 2013 when he pleaded guilty to a drunken driving change in Virginia.

Crapo previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Idaho State Senate. Idaho has not elected a Democratic U.S. Senator since 1974.
