Dan Ansotegui was raised around Basque music, food and dance. He's been playing the button accordian in different musical groups for decades and was recently awarded the National Heritage Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. He joins Idaho Matters to discuss his cultural heritage and the thrill of winning his award.


On Saturday, the 5th Annual Bosnian and Herzegovinian Heritage Day will be held at Kleiner Park in Meridian. Idaho Matters talks about the history and traditions of the region's Bosnian and Herzegovinian communities. George Prentice visits with Maya Duratovic and Patty Miller from the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise on the role of the city's Basques in helping these European communities settle in Idaho.


The Rotary Club of Boise will be spilling suds at the Firkin Frolic Beer Fest next Thursday on the Basque Block. The event will feature small-cask firkin beer as well as an assortment of other local brews and chews. We check in with the Rotary to talk about this Boise tradition.

Annual Basque Festival Kicks Off In Boise

The San Inazio Festival is an annual event to honor St. Ignatius of Loyola, the patron saint of the Basques. It began more than 25 years ago and now thousands come to the Basque Block at the end of every July to see local musicians and dancers as well as Basque sporting events.
