President Trump insists the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is a terrible deal for American workers, but one-quarter of Idaho’s exports went to Canada and Mexico from 2002 to 2016 and the state's agricultural community is very concerned about what a withdrawal from NAFTA could mean for their bottom line.

Negotiations surrounding the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, will soon enter an eighth round. Industries in Idaho are keeping a close eye on the talks.

RICHLAND, Wash. – A group of Northwest farmers plans to bring in thousands of legal Mexican guest workers to their fields and orchards this year. Last season many farmers were scrambling to pick their crops because of a worker shortage.

The federal H-2A guest worker program is so cumbersome and expensive, that most farmers haven’t wanted to use it. Employers have to pay for transportation, approved housing and usually more money than the going wage for workers already in the U.S.
