With the influence of Saudi Arabia and Russia shrinking as the goal of “energy independence” comes into focus, America’s energy policy would seem to be on a clear and positive trajectory. But the truth is more complicated.

A group that’s critical of a bill making its way through the Idaho legislature rallied on the steps of the Idaho statehouse Monday. Citizens Allied for Integrity and Accountability organized the gathering in response to a Senate committee vote in favor of a bill to speed up oil and gas production. The bill would shorten the time for appeals to new energy applications.

Idaho officials have rejected a Texas company's request to exclude federal lands and potential royalties from what is believed to be a profitable natural gas field in the southwest part of the state.

The Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on Thursday voted 3-2 in a decision that went against Houston-based oil company Alta Mesa's petition to omit 187 acres of federal land from a 615-acre drilling unit.

Idaho Begins Seismic Testing for Natural Gas

The natural gas industry in Western Idaho is looking for large pockets of natural gas underground. it’s using a process is called seismic testing. It helps companies like Snake River Oil and Gas know exactly where to start drilling.

Rod McLeod is with Gulf Coast Permits and is helping analyze 50 square miles near the town of New Plymouth. He explains how 32-thousand pound trucks help determine if there is gas hundreds of feet underground.
