I'll Have Another's Injury Comes Too Late For Rousing Sermon

Mark Cornelison
/
Lexington Herald-Leader

The colt that was a threat to win this year’s Triple Crown will not run in tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes.  An injury has ended I’ll Have Another’s racing career.  The news is also unfortunate for the Boise-area horse “Rousing Sermon”.

Soon after Rousing Sermon finished a surprising 8th in the Kentucky Derby, those who manage the horse said he’d sit out the Preakness Stakes a few weeks later.  They wanted the horse to rest.  But they took a wait-and-see approach on this weekend’s Belmont race, the final one in the Triple Crown.  Dan Kiser, who manages Tree Top Ranches near Parma where Rousing Sermon was raised, said if one of the top three horses pulled out then Rousing Sermon would run.

But Kiser told KBSX this morning that the injury to I’ll Have Another simply came too late for Rousing Sermon to compete.  He says horses had to be entered by Wednesday.  Kiser says he’s "sick" over the timing of the injury.

Rousing Sermon’s next likely race will be the Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park California on the 4th of July.
