Ballet Idaho's Sherlock / Giselle

Ballet Idaho's Sherlock / Giselle

Sherlock & Giselle
October 10–12, 2025
Morrison Center for the Performing Arts

Step into two worlds, brought together on one stage.

Ballet Idaho opens its 53rd season with a world premiere unlike any other. Sherlock, choreographed by Penny Saunders, takes its cues from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s enduring detective. Through layered voices, cinematic soundscapes, and striking choreography, Saunders conjures suspense, wit, and suffrage-era London in a bold new ballet created in close collaboration with Ballet Idaho’s Artistic Associate Director, Anne Mueller.

Balancing this new creation is Giselle, one of the Romantic era’s most timeless works. In this haunting Act II, Giselle transcends into the afterlife as a Wili after her heart is broken. Amidst moonlit forests and ethereal corps of women, love, betrayal, and forgiveness unfold in choreography both technically virtuosic and emotionally charged.

Together, these two works reveal the spectrum of what ballet can be: contemporary storytelling paired with classical tradition. Whether you’re a lifelong ballet lover or experiencing it for the first time, Sherlock & Giselle is an evening of artistry and imagination that will linger long after the curtain falls.
