INTIMATE OBJECTS: VEIKO VALENCIA

INTIMATE OBJECTS: VEIKO VALENCIA

The exhibition comprehends a series of paintings and drawings where the main subject is the object. Objects are physical points to make us aware of our sense of space in nature. They are receivers of light and generators of shadows. But they also make us aware of our position we occupy in the world of ideas.

Objects are witnesses of our intimate lives. In them, we put our individual memories and hopes. They are the evidence of ourselves. In them, a part of our life is there, they can be seen as mere revealers of who we are. However, objects are part of the world too. They hold our intimate thoughts in them as well the collective thoughts of the world. They are telling us that they do not have to remain loyal to us. They won’t miss us once we are not here in the world. Soon they will become the receivers of memories for others. Objects are also bridges to connect us with a larger idea, practice, or order. An object is also a concept.

Veiko Valencia was born in Peru and has lived in Boise, Idaho, since 2007. He studied at a traditional Art School, Carlos Baca Flor, in Arequipa, Peru. Later, Valencia obtained his BFA in Painting and Drawing and his MFA in Visual Arts from Boise State University. He is a current recipient of the Alexa Rose residency.
