Despite a concerted advertising campaign by the College of Western Idaho to pass a $180 million bond, the measure failed on the November ballot.
Now, CWI is examining the loss. The bond would have been used to construct a new CWI campus in Boise and expand the college’s footprint in Nampa.
In an interview with the Idaho Statesman, Mark Dunham, CWI Board Chairman and Bert Glandon, the president of the college, say they want to take time to assess the loss. Part of that evaluation will include listening tours around the area.
The two say they're putting together a committee to make the rounds of Ada and Canyon Counties to hear from residents about what they expect of the college. They say they're going to take at least a year to conduct the tour and come up with a strategy for moving forward.
In the wake of the bond loss, CWI is holding off on expanding in Nampa. The college officials say a health sciences building is needed at the Canyon County campus. However, they reckon future support of another bond would lag if Ada County weren't included in future expansion plans.
