Three big fires raged across the Bureau of Land Management’s Twin Falls District this week.
The big burns started on Sunday evening when lightning sparked the Loveridge Fire just south of Bruneau. By Monday morning, that blaze exploded to around 40,000 acres. High winds fanned the flames burning through open brush and grasslands. The Times News reports fire crews got the upper hand on the Loveridge Fire Monday night and had it completely out by Tuesday evening.
The Antelope Fire was also sparked by lightning earlier this week. That fire burned south of Shoshone and consumed just under 30,000 acres. Officials say the Antelope Fire was controlled Wednesday night.
Finally, the Meadow Creek Fire charred some 490 acres close to the Utah border near mile marker 256 along I-84. Smoke jumpers were deployed to combat that blaze as it burned through steep and hilly terrain.
Forecasts across much of southern Idaho call for triple-digit heat lasting into the weekend. In the Magic Valley, pop-up thunderstorms are possible, which could spark another fire.
