Ada County’s Busiest Intersection To Change Its Traffic Light System

Drivers who use a busy intersection in Meridian will soon see some changes.  The Idaho Transportation Department is eliminating free-running right turns at the intersection of Eagle and Fairview roads.  Instead, all turns will be controlled by a traffic light.  Spokesman Reed Hollinshead says the change will effect a lot of people. “Well this is the busiest intersection in the county, it has been for several years.  If you’re one of the 6,300 cars that head through there on average in rush hour, this will be big news to you.”

The changes are being made in anticipation of the intersection getting even busier.  A new development on the Northeast corner will encompass 500,000 square feet of new business space and thus generate more traffic.  Crews will start moving traffic signals Tuesday.  The change could take up to a month to complete.

As Senior Producer of our live daily talk show Idaho Matters, I’m able to indulge my love of storytelling and share all kinds of information (I was probably a Town Crier in a past life!). My career has allowed me to learn something new everyday and to share that knowledge with all my friends on the radio.
