Jeffrey McMorris will administer HUD in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Most recently McMorris was the chief of staff for a King County councilmember in Washington State, where he oversaw budgeting, policy and communications.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development awards grants to state, county, city and tribal governments. The money goes to rental assistance, housing counseling agencies, fair housing groups and more. Last year, HUD awarded $3.6 million to Idaho groups fighting homelessness.

The Department also backs some 30-year mortgages, aimed at low and middle-income earners.
