Idaho Democratic Party Chairman Bert Marley has announced that his state party staffers have decided to unionize.

Marley said Thursday that the Idaho Democratic Party will be the first state democratic party in the nation to unionize its staff.

Marley added he was pleased with the staff's decision for setting an example on what it means to advocate for workers to organize, to bargain collectively and to earn livable wages

The Idaho Democratic Party has authorized the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 291 — a labor union that largely represents electricians and workers in fields related to electrical work — as their collective bargaining representative.

Four of the party's six staffers will be part of the union.
