This year’s State of the City presentation in Twin Falls featured the mayor, members of the city council and other city staff. The multi-faceted approach highlighted the city’s updated strategic plan that stretches to the year 2030.
Twin Falls Mayor Shawn Barigar was just one part of the State of the City ceremony at the Orpheum Theatre. A range of speakers spoke to different components of the plan. Themes include health, education, security, accessibility and prosperity.
TheTimes News reports the deputy city manager touted the city’s remodeled police station and says Twin Falls is employing two firms to look at long range fire service planning for the next 40 years.
As for accessibility, the expansion of the Magic Valley Regional Airport terminal was upgraded last year and more flights have been added as the region continues to grow. A $4 million taxiway expansion at the facility is expected to wrap up in the next few months.
Nathan Murray, the director of the Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency, touched on a big downtown revamp. He discussed the commons plaza coming to Main Avenue and Hansen Street. Murray also mentioned a recent decision to bulldoze a historic downtown building to make way for a new $6 million development.
The city’s 2030 strategic plan is intended to serve as guiding document that outlines budgets and decisions but doesn’t bind city leaders.
