Shoe Companies Come Together To Sponsor October Marathon Honoring Boisean Shay Hirsch

onwardshay.com
Much of the course will be run on the Greenbelt, with a scenic detour through historic Boise neighborhoods like Harrison Blvd. and Hyde Park.

Organizers have announced sponsorships details of a new marathon to be run this fall in Boise.

The Onward Shay! Marathon and Half Marathon is scheduled for October 30. The event will honor the legacy of runner Shay Hirsch, who died of cancer in 2014.

Six major shoe companies have come together to help sponsor the event. Organizers say such collaboration is rare. The companies include New Balance, Saucony, Brooks, Asics, Adidas and Mizuno.

“Shoe companies are very competitive,” said Tom Carleo, Vice President of Running at New Balance. “This is a great opportunity for us to come together to honor Shay’s spirit.”

Hirsch was a Boise native. She was married to George Hirsch, former publisher of Runner’s World Magazine and Chairman of the Board of the New York Road Runners, the group that hosts the New York City Marathon.

Other Treasure Valley sponsors include Micron, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, KTVB, the Idaho Statesman and the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation.
