OK river rats, here’s the scoop: Ada County will open Barber Park services this Saturday where you can start your day on the river. The tube and raft rentals open at 10 a.m., and the first shuttle departs Ann Morrison Park at noon, where floaters can take out.
For those new to the summertime experience, you can expect the float to take about two hours.
Floaters, kayakers and paddleboarders could not be more ready to jump in the water. This year’s opening date is the latest on record, and more than a month after the average one. County officials had to wait until the Bureau of Reclamation could lower the river to a level safe for floating. Between now and Saturday, the Boise Fire Department will clear remaining branches, logs and debris for safety.
But the county reminds people that their safety is ultimately their own responsibility. They recommend everyone wear life jackets and proper footwear, and to not drink alcohol while on the river.
