Daniel Stern, one of the most well-known figures of classical music in Boise for more than 40 years, is retiring.
Most recently, he’s been the music director for the Boise Baroque Chamber Orchestra since 2005, but he also served in that same role for the Boise Philharmonic for 13 years.
Stern plans to step down at the end of the 2018-2019 season, which he says should ensure a smooth transition.
The Swiss native grew up in Rochester, New York and has taught in Oregon public schools, as well as Boise State University and the College of Idaho.
James Dawson recently spoke with Stern about his life and how he became interested in classical music in the first place.
