1950s-'60s Classic Sci-Fi talk; revived vintage manuscripts compiled in GREMMIE'S REEF
Time-travel back to the golden age of science fiction with Laurie Winslow Sargent, compiler and editor of GREMMIE’S REEF: Classic Sci-Fi Short Stories from the 1950s & 1960s.
Sargent is the literary executor and stepdaughter of John Hayden Howard (1925-2014) internationally-known in the ‘60s as author Hayden Howard.
Howard’s fast-paced, mind-bending sci-fi and dystopian tales are perfect for fans of The Twilight Zone, Heinlein, and Isaac Asimov—who published one of Howard’s stories in one of his own anthologies.
Hayden Howard was a 1968 Nebula Best Novel award finalist and 1967 Hugo Best Novelette finalist (for a story included now in Gremmie’s Reef!)
This was the same year Star Trek, Fahrenheit 451, and Fantastic Voyage were nominees-- as was Lord of the Rings, the previous year-- so Howard was in good company.
Published 73 times in the US, UK, and Australia, with translations in French and Italian, Howard’s works which once resonated across the globe are now reborn. At this event hear excerpts from 7 of his best stories in Reawakened Worlds Vol 1 (now titled Gremmie's Reef) the first official collection from his own literary estate.
Also see fun reminders of the '50s & '60s including original manuscripts, letters from his literary agent, and vintage magazine covers from that era.
