Fred Riggers Disability Awareness Day

Fred Riggers Disability Awareness Day

Fred Riggers Disability Awareness Day
Each year the Consortium for Idahoans with Disabilities (“CID”) sponsors the Fred Riggers Disability Awareness Day, at the Idaho State Capitol Rotunda. Fred was a champion for Idahoans with disabilities. For years, after he lost his sight, Fred attended the legislature to advocate for those with disabilities.
This day is an opportunity for individuals with disabilities, caregivers, families, and organizations to go to the State Capitol and like Fred, advocate with their legislators on five key issues that are impacting Idaho’s disability community: Direct care workforce shortage, Children’s mental health, Housing crisis, Digital access, and Voting rights. Advocating on these key issues with legislators can have an impact on these public servants who make and change laws affecting Idaho’s disability community.
Fred Riggers Disability Day is Tuesday, February 21 from 9:00 – 1:00 at the Capitol Rotunda. Governor Brad Little will sign a proclamation making this date, Disability Awareness Day. An awards ceremony will be held at 12:00 to honor three Idahoans, Senator Grant Burgoyne, Kristyn Herbert, and Rick Huber whose service and example have made an impact in the disability community. Information on resources offered by CID member organizations will be available. All are welcome to join and advocate, enjoy a cup of coffee, and have a photo taken to remember the day you made a difference.
