Idaho Genealogical Society presentation: A History Lesson on French Canada and the King’s Daughters

Idaho Genealogical Society presentation: A History Lesson on French Canada and the King’s Daughters

If you have French-Canadian ancestry, you are likely to have one or more King's Daughters (Filles du roi) or Carignan soldiers among your ancestors. In the early years of the French colony along the St. Lawrence River, there were many more men than women. The "King's Daughters" were approximately 768 women of child-bearing age sent from France under the sponsorship of King Louis XIV with the promise of a dowry of 50 livre or more for a marriage to an unmarried male colonist. Come and learn more about French Canadian history and the part played by the King's Daughters as well as the French soldiers in the Carignan-Salières regiment who settled in Quebec.

Our speaker, Lisa Elvin Staltari, is a genealogist, writer, and speaker. She specializes in French Canadian/Quebec Genealogy in addition to New England. However, her "travels" in genealogy lead her to places as distant as Sweet Home, Arkansas, Hutchinson, Kansas and Seattle, Washington. That is what she loves about genealogy. You just never know where those roots will take you! Have Roots Will Travel is the name of her website and her YouTube Channel.
