Titanic, The Musical
Titanic, The Musical
Nampa, Idaho – Music Theatre of Idaho is proud to present the classic Broadway musical TITANIC, THE MUSICAL with story and book by Peter Stone and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, based on the true story of the Titanic, for one weekend only, February 2-4, 2023 at the Nampa Civic Center.
TITANIC, THE MUSICAL opened on Broadway, March 29, 1997 and went on to win Best Musical at the 1997 Tony Awards. The sinking of the Titanic in the early hours of April 15, 1912 remains the quintessential disaster story of that century. A total of 1,517 souls - men, women and children - lost their lives (only 711 survived). The fact that the finest, largest, strongest ship in the world - called, in fact, the "unsinkable" ship - should have been lost during its maiden voyage is so incredible that, had it not actually happened, no author would have dared to contrive it. TITANIC, THE MUSICAL is a contemporary musical, with a brilliant and memorable score which examines the causes, the conditions and the characters involved in this ever-fascinating drama.
"The Tony award winning musical, Titanic was over shadowed by the James Cameron Movie, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, which came out the same year," said director Jean Andrews. TITANIC, THE MUSICAL features some of the most beautiful music written for the Broadway stage, and also features more complete character studies of some of the actual persons aboard the ill fated ship. Both production and film were inspired by the 1985 discovery of the wreckage site of the Titanic and all the years of mystery, intrigue and romance which surrounded the loss. The musical, which is staged with emphasis on character and relationships, is appropriate and accessible to all ages. Andrews concluded, “2023 marks the 111th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, an event which lives in infamy as well as lessons in greed, pride and the strength of perseverance."
TITANIC, THE MUSICAL is the first of seven productions of the Music Theatre of Idaho's Broadway season 2023. Season Tickets are also still available for the 2023 season which includes: Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, TUCK EVERLASTING, TICK, TICK BOOM!, Rodgers and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, SWEENY TODD-THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, and ELF.
