'Pocket Neighborhoods' Of Affordable Homes Are Hot Commodity In Garden City

A planned block of new homes in the Treasure Valley is attracting buyers before the foundations are even laid.

Once it’s completed, the pocket neighborhood will include 15 houses just two blocks from the Boise River on 40th Street. As the Idaho Statesman reports, the 40th Street Cottages will range in price from $180,000-$210,000, and will be mostly two-bedroom homes.

It’s the third Garden City neighborhood built by social service agency NeighborWorks Boise. The agency plans to complete the first 10 homes on the block in October, but half of them have already been sold to eager homebuyers.

As the housing market gets more expensive, affordable housing for low and middle income families is becoming harder to find. The median Ada County home price hit a record high of almost $300,000 earlier this year.
