A report-card out Thursday gives Idaho’s education system a C - and places the state near the bottom in the country. Education Week’s annual Quality Counts report card grades states in six categories and numerous subcategories. On students’ chance for success in school and beyond Idaho gets a C, for student achievement a C -.
Idaho does well providing schools with standards, assessment and accountability. But it does poorly when it comes to supporting teachers and funding schools.
Transitioning students out of school is mixed, with a D - for college readiness but a B + transitioning to the workforce.
Idaho performed better than two states: Nevada and South Dakota. Maryland is at the head of the class with a B + followed by Massachusetts and New York.
