The media team of Newsweek and the Daily Beast has released its annual list of the nation’s best high schools. Seven Idaho schools made this year’s top 2,000 list. Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy is ranked 89, the only Idaho school to crack the top 100.
A 100 percent graduation rate, 94 percent of students bound for college, high average SAT and ACT scores, and high scores on advanced placement tests put Coeur d’Alene Charter well ahead of its closest in-state rival. Eagle High School shows up next on the list at number 657.
Two Blaine County schools appear next. Wood River High in Hailey is 865 and Carey School which serves fewer than 250 students in pre-school through 12th grade is 1001.
McCall-Donnelly High comes in at 1184. Sugar-Salem is 1501, and Boise’s Capital High School comes in at 1516.
Last year Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy was 67 on Newsweek’s list. Eagle High rose this year from 853 but McCall-Donnelly dropped from 876.
Correction: When this story was originally posted on May 7 it erroneously said the Newsweek list is the first of three such lists released each year. However, the Washington Post and U.S. News and World Report had already released their annual lists.
