The south Idaho teacher who made national headlines for allowing students to draw on each other’s faces with permanent markers, will keep her job.
The Twin Falls Times-News reportsthat the state’s ethics investigation of Declo 4th grade teacher Summer Larsen has been completed, and no formal discipline will appear in her file for the incident that happened last November.
Larson had allowed her class to choose a reward for meeting school reading goals. The students decided that those who met the goals could draw on the faces of those who did not.
The Times-News article explains why the district choose to renew Larsen’s contract.
“Steve Lynch, board member for the district, said Larsen was rehired based on teacher evaluations performed by the school’s principal Rebecca Hunsaker. Hunsaker retired at the end of this school year. Hunsaker did not respond to the Times-News’ request for an interview. ‘The evaluation recommended rehiring Larsen. The evaluation was done appropriately and professionally and supported that decision,’ said Lynch.” – Times-News
