Caps and gowns are the fashion of the day at Boise State University. This weekend sees the final batch of commencement ceremonies presided over by university president Bob Kustra.
There are so many spring graduates, Boise State is hosting two separate events to accommodate the high number of students completing their undergraduate careers.
In a letter to the campus, Kustra provides some numbers about the graduating class of 2018. He writes more than 2,600 students are eligible for degrees and certificates this weekend. About a fifth of those graduating will be doing so with honors. This season, 21 students will receive their doctorate.
The first spring graduation with Kustra at the university’s helm – back in 2004 – saw about 1,500 students receive degrees. The outgoing president describes the growth at the university over the last 15 years as “stunning.”
Kustra will step down as president at the end of June, but he plans to teach among the faculty at Boise State's School of Public Service.
