More homes are now threatened by the Karney fire burning near Robie Creek Road northeast of Boise. Officials say the fire jumped a containment line in the Mitchell Gulch area and now threatens between 75 and 100 homes in the Wilderness Ranch subdivision. The fire burned one home Monday.
The Boise County Sheriff's Department evacuated residents Tuesday morning near Rush Creek Road and the top part of Evergreen Road. Both are in the Wilderness Ranch subdivision. About 20 homes were evacuated Monday.
The Idaho Statesman is reporting that a suspect has been arrested for allegedly causing the fire. Sheriff's officials will hold a press conference at 11 AM to release more details.
Officials say the fire is a "challenging" one. It slowed down with lower temperatures and higher humidity Monday night. But Dave Olsen, a spokesman with the Boise National Forest, says that relief will be temporary.
"The concern for today is that it will likely pick up as temperatures warm in the afternoon," he says.
About 100 firefighters worked on the blaze Monday and fire managers have ordered four more crews to the area. Air tankers and helicopters are also helping. Those managing the fire are also considering bringing in a Type 2 incident management team.
At last update, the fire had burned 80 acres and was 15 percent contained.
