Idaho Fish and Game is rewriting its plan to manage the state's elk population. That plan was last updated in 1997. Tonight, the agency will host an online chat to hear from state residents.
Toby Boudreau is the deer and elk program coordinator for the department. He says after 16 years, an updated plan is long overdue.
Tonight’s (Wednesday) chat runs from 7 until 9. Fish and Game will host another at the same times Thursday night. To participate, you can go to the Fish and Game website and look for the chat link.
The department has also scheduled 16 open houses around the state. Those start April 22 and run for a month. The department will take a draft plan to the wildlife commission this summer. After another opportunity for public input, the state plans to implement the new plan next March.
