Update, 12:40 p.m.: The mandatory evacuation order has been lifted for residents from the hospital bridge south to East Fork Road on the east side of Highway 75. This includes residents of Cold Springs, Gimlet, and the Meadows.

The Blaine County sheriff's office says these areas will remain on pre-evacuation notice, which means they should be ready to evacuate if necessary.

Original Post: Idaho's Beaver Creek Fire is now 30 percent contained. The 166 square-mile wildfire was started by lightning Aug. 7.

Thousands of residents in Ketchum, Sun Valley, and Hailey have been on evacuation alerts or mandatory evacuation orders over the last few days. The Blaine County sheriff's office has been slowly lifting the evacuation notices.

Mandatory evacuations are still in place for:

  • Galena Summit south to Glassford Height on both sides of Hwy 75 including Baker Creek, Easley, SNRA, Fox Creek, Eagle Creek, Chocolate Gulch, and North Fork Trailer Park
  • Hospital bridge south down to the north side of East Fork on both sides of Highway including Broadway Run and the Meadows
  • Greenhorn Gulch, Golden Eagle, and Timber Gulch south down to the Greenhorn Bridge
  • Croy Creek Canyon from Big Wood Bridge west

At least 1,200 firefighters are still working in the area, yet the Wood River Valley is beginning to return to normal. Yesterday, the city of Ketchum announced its week-long Wagon Days that starts Aug. 28 would continue as planned.
