A handful of rangeland wildfires have cropped up in southwest Idaho despite recent rain showers across the region.
Four different fires near Grand View, Kuna, Marsing and Murphy have been contained this week – the largest of which burned more than 200 acres.
“The vegetation is drier than people think – especially the grasses,” says Jared Jablonski, a spokesperson with the Bureau of Land Management’s Boise district.
“[These conditions] have the potential for several hundred-acre fires already,” Jablonski says.
He says each of them was human caused, but doesn’t believe they’re linked.
The U.S. Forest Service has finished several prescribed burns across Central and West Central Idaho as a way to deprive any potential wildfire easy to burn fuel.
The latest forecast from National Interagency Fire Center in Boise predicts above normal fire conditions taking over most of Idaho in July, with August expected to see the most activity.
