Idaho Fish and Game biologists are catching and tagging female sage grouse to see how they are doing after the 2018 Grassy Ridge Fire that occured 15 miles northwest of St. Anthony.
Fish and Game uses rocket nets to catch as many female sage grouse as possible. Biologists want to find out how the birds are nesting, raising chicks and using the landscape after the fire.
After the female grouse are caught, volunteers and staff rush in to secure the birds from under the net.
The team attaches solar-powered GPS transmitters to the birds and then releases them, so they can follow their progress and better help birds in the area.
