The Idaho Department of Insurance is warning Idahoans to be wary of a surge in robocalls offering fake or limited coverage as comprehensive health insurance.
Consumer Services Bureau Chief for the Idaho Department of Insurance, Elaine Mellon, says that she herself has experienced calls like this. Her advice in dealing with them?
“Ask to see a copy of the coverages that are going to be provided," she suggests. "They should be able to provide them a copy of all the coverages, a written copy, whether they email it to them, fax it to them, send it through the mail. Before they purchase anything make sure they look and see what specifically those coverages are."
Limited time specials on health insurance products are being used as part of the scam. Cheap prices on these policies have made people more susceptible to these calls.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not legitimate," Mellon says.
If you have any doubts about the company or agent you are looking to purchase from, you might take a minute to check the Idaho Department of Insurance or the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to make sure they check out.
