Republican presidential candidates have Idaho on their campaign schedules ahead of Super Tuesday on March 6th. Rick Santorum arrived Tuesday to flex his conservative credentials. His visit marks the first of three stops by Republican contenders this week.
Nearly 1,300 people were on their feet Tuesday night as Rick Santorum walked on stage wearing his trademark sweater vest and cowboy boots. “I don’t know why more presidential candidates don’t come to Boise. This is pretty amazing,” Santorum told the crowd.
The overflow crowd filled the auditorium at Capitol High and the school’s gymnasium. Many came to learn more about what they see as one of the most conservative candidates in the race. Santorum told reporters Idaho matters with 32 delegates up for grabs during Super Tuesday on March 6th. Santorum said, “It’s a small state, I know from a population stand point but it’s a big one in the republican hunt. And that’s why we are here. We’d like to get every one of these delegates and that’s what we’re here to do.”
Other candidates hope to do the same. Ron Paul plans to visit Twin Falls on Thursday. Mitt Romney comes to Boise for a public event and a private fundraiser on Friday.
