Boise resident and Olympic gold medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong has had two bicycles she rode in the London Olympics stolen. Armstrong received two empty boxes at her house Tuesday, according to a news release issued by her cycling team, Exergy TWENTY12.
The road and time trials bikes had been on display in Germany two weeks ago, and then were supposed to be shipped through Atlanta to Boise.
Armstrong won her second Olympic gold medal in the individual time trial riding a Felt DA time trial bike. She also competed in the London road race riding her Felt F1 road bike.
Both bikes have SRAM and Zipp components and were on display at Eurobike in Friedrichshafen, Germany from August 29 to September 1.
Armstrong said on the Team's blog that “The bikes mean so much to me. My TT bike is a symbol of all the hard work that has been put in to this journey” commented Armstrong. “It is sad to think that somebody out there has taken this away from me and my family.”
An investigation is underway. Exergy TWENTY12 is offering a reward for the bikes.
