American tennis player John Isner lost in straight sets to Serbian Novak Djokovic in Boise this afternoon.
Djokovic is the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world. Friday's match was the first in a series that will be played at the Taco Bell Arena for the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
Isner had a couple of breaks in the first set, and just barely lost in a tie break. The 6-foot-9 player has a fast serve, and regularly broke 120 mph. But the Serbian team’s star was more consistent, and Isner seemed to lose his momentum in the second and third sets.
But that didn’t keep the largely pro-American crowd from getting rowdy. Face-painted fans cheered, hooted-and-hollered, and waved their patriotic flags during the match.
The Davis Cup will continue throughout the weekend in Boise. On Saturday, the Bryan Brothers -- perhaps the most successful doubles team in history -- will play at 1:00 p.m. MST.
