Cold Weather Closes Some Idaho Schools

The cold snap affecting Idaho has led some schools to cancel classes.

Schools in Idaho Falls, Oneida County, Grace, Fort Hall, Blackfoot and others were closed in eastern Idaho, along with schools in southern Idaho's Jerome and Shoshone school districts.  Officials with the Boise School District warned parents that some buses were running late because of the cold snap.

The temperature was around 8 degrees below zero across much of the southern half of the state, dipping to 13 degrees below zero in Ashton on Monday morning.  Temperature readings in downtown Boise were -3 at 6:30 a.m.  At the same time, a monitoring station in the Eagle foothills showed a temperature reading of -9 and one near Kuna showed -15.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting a high of 11 Monday in downtown Boise. The weather, though, is expected to moderate by midweek.  Highs on Wednesday are expected in the mid 20s and could reach the upper 30s on Saturday and Sunday.

The mountains start the week with a chance of light snow.  McCall is expected to reach 10 degrees Monday afternoon.  Highs in the Wood River Valley are predicted in the lower teens.
