Update 3:15 p.m.: The Idaho State Police (ISP) report the westbound lanes of I-84 reopened at about 2:00 p.m. That’s after a 46-car-accident caused a five-hour delay.
An ISP spokesperson says a swerving logging truck caused a chain reaction of accidents. Tow trucks, another logging truck, and a boom had to be brought in to clear vehicles and logs from the road.
Posted 11:23 a.m.: Idaho State Police (ISP) say 46 cars were involved in an accident on Interstate 84 near Boise this morning as fog quickly moved into the area. The crash shut the interstate down in both directions.
According to State Police, Ada County paramedics transported 10 people from the scene. One car rolled over seriously injuring the driver. Everyone involved is expected to survive.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. as police were on the scene clearing an earlier accident. A logging truck moved over and clipped at least one passing semi. That started a chain reaction.
The large crash occurred in the westbound lanes on Interstate 84 between Garrity and Ten Mile roads between Meridian and Nampa. Soon after, a crash occurred in the same area in the eastbound lanes. Since the crash, eastbound lanes of I-84 are moving again. But State Police say the cleanup of westbound I-84 will take most of the day to clear up and they're advising drivers to take alternate routes.
ISP is using a bus to take drivers and witnesses off the scene. The Nampa Fire Department, Ada County Paramedics, Canyon County Paramedics, and ISP are still working the scene.
