The Grove Plaza in downtown Boise has been undergoing renovations for many months and is finally set to re-open. On Wednesday, the plaza opens with its first session of Alive After Five, the city’s summer concert series.
For the past two years, the summer concerts have taken up residence in the Basque Block and organizers are excited for its return back to the Grove Plaza. This year will be the 31st year for Alive After Five. Lynn Hightower, Executive director of the Downtown Boise Association, says that people have really missed the event being at the Grove.
The Plaza was re-designed to be more accommodating to the event. The large, open downtown space had a tendency to get very hot during the summer months, and in order to create a better experience for participants, broad shade structures and sun umbrellas now will be used. The new fountain - a long-time centerpiece of the Grove - also has a mist feature.
The fountain isn’t the only new construction. The nine-story Clearwater Building, a renovated conference center, and a new transportation hub are also neighbors around the Plaza.
