A lodge at the base of Bald Mountain owned by the Sun Valley Resort is the victim of a raging fire.
The Warm Springs Lodge caught fire Wednesday night. The flames raged through the darkness, gutting the luxurious building at the famed ski resort.
Bright flames could be seen leaping out of the roof as fire crews from Ketchum, Sun Valley and Wood River Fire and Rescue attempted to get the upper hand.
Will Fruehling, the chief deputy with the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, says no one was injured, and only the lodge burned.
"As far as I know, it was contained to the lodge," says Fruehling. "I know at some point there was some concern about some tall pine trees that were close to the building, and I know there certainly was a concern at one point that the fire would spread to adjacent properties, but I’ve not heard that that ever happened."
The chief deputy says flames were still active in an area between the ceiling and the roof meant to prevent ice dams. He says fire in that contained space is hard to fight.
Sun Valley ended its ski season last weekend, meaning the Warm Springs Lodge was closed to the public. The cause of the fire is unknown. Investigators will start combing through the scene once the flames are completely extinguished.
